The following is an update from Kate Fenske, Manager, Manitoba Public Affairs and Western Canada Media Relations regarding the ongoing cleanup of the January 6, 2018 derailment involving 23 cars including three gondola cars carrying nickel sulphide which is a known carcinogen and toxic to aquatic life.
CN Environment crews will be back onsite Monday, June 4. As part of CN’s ongoing cleanup and mitigation activities, we will be in the area to take soil and water samples and carryout an overall site inspection to determine if any other product removal is necessary. We will also be planning for revegetation activities, that are scheduled for later in the season. This includes species composition, density and placement.
We wanted to let you and other cottagers know they may see crews in the area around Nora Lake on Monday. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out at any time or email contact@cn.ca.
