Calling all Women Interested in Sailing!

Posted on: March 12, 2021  |   ,

Sent on behalf of the Whiteshell Women’s Sailing League

Interested in learning to sail but not sure where to start? Already taken some lessons and wondering how to improve your skills? Looking for a reason to get social and meet other women in the South Whiteshell region? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, then we have the program for you.

This summer, the Falcon and West Hawk Lake Sailing Clubs plan to launch a new joint program targeted at women and girls of all ages who have limited to no prior sailing experience. The program will offer an opportunity to learn to sail and race a small sailboat on Falcon Lake. To sustain and build on newly learned skills, we plan to offer training workshops, mentorship opportunities, and a sailing league dedicated to program participants. Mothers, daughters, and grandmothers can sail together for safe recreational fun on our beautiful lake in our fabulous provincial park.

We are still finalizing the details of the program offering, and we would like to ask for your help in making sure that we offer the program that you are looking for! If this sounds like something that you could be interested in, please fill out our quick survey at the link below for feedback on this program. We’re hoping to have all survey results by March 31.

(Estimated time to complete survey: 2-5 minutes)

For more information and program registration, please click on the link to our website below, or contact us by email with your questions. Along with support from Sail Manitoba we hope to promote women sailing within the whole province. Come join us in experiencing the joy of sailing!

Thank you,

Caddy Air Field – Manitoba Historical SocietyDuring the Great Depression of the 1930s, the Canadian federal government employed able-bodied, unemployed men to build public infrastructure. In return for their labour, each man was provided with food, shelter, and 20 cents per day. In Manitoba, three construction gangs worked in the Whiteshell Forest Reserve (today’s Whiteshell Provincial Park) to build roads to enable the development of tourism in this part of the province. Between Fall 1933 and Spring 1934, one hundred men from the Caddy Lake Relief Camp, under the supervision of Col. Logie Armstrong from the Department of National Defense, built an emergency airfield at this site about 1.5 miles west of the Ontario border. ... See MoreSee Less

Good morning, we found a small water craft (paddle boat) adrift in Big Whiteshell Lake. It was found floating in the middle of the lake no where near a cabin. I was wondering if you could post something for me? If they can identify what it is then we will know it is going to the rightful owner. They can message me to identify what it is and for pick up information. Or call me at 1 (204) 348-3294. ... See MoreSee Less
