Calling all Women Interested in Sailing!

Sent on behalf of the Whiteshell Women’s Sailing League

Interested in learning to sail but not sure where to start? Already taken some lessons and wondering how to improve your skills? Looking for a reason to get social and meet other women in the South Whiteshell region? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, then we have the program for you.

This summer, the Falcon and West Hawk Lake Sailing Clubs plan to launch a new joint program targeted at women and girls of all ages who have limited to no prior sailing experience. The program will offer an opportunity to learn to sail and race a small sailboat on Falcon Lake. To sustain and build on newly learned skills, we plan to offer training workshops, mentorship opportunities, and a sailing league dedicated to program participants. Mothers, daughters, and grandmothers can sail together for safe recreational fun on our beautiful lake in our fabulous provincial park.

We are still finalizing the details of the program offering, and we would like to ask for your help in making sure that we offer the program that you are looking for! If this sounds like something that you could be interested in, please fill out our quick survey at the link below for feedback on this program. We’re hoping to have all survey results by March 31.

(Estimated time to complete survey: 2-5 minutes)

For more information and program registration, please click on the link to our website below, or contact us by email with your questions. Along with support from Sail Manitoba we hope to promote women sailing within the whole province. Come join us in experiencing the joy of sailing!

Thank you,

Cynthia Grant

Another Message from Manitoba Hydro - Pointe Du BoisWe are writing to advise that Manitoba Hydro issued a Request for Proposals on Monday, October 25, looking for a contractor to provide Owner’s Engineer services on a future project to replace eight generating units at the 110-year-old Pointe du Bois Generating Station. The Request for Proposals is part of our ongoing planning and preparation for the project and will provide us with important information on capacity in the marketplace and the associated costs. It does not however, represent a final decision to proceed with the project.Manitoba Hydro has applied to the Federal Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program for funding of the Pointe du Bois Generating Station’s unit replacements as a climate change mitigation project. That application is still before the federal government and we anticipate approval in the next few months.Under the current schedule, we expect to make a final decision on proceeding with the project in the fall of 2022, prior to entering into any major contracts. We will keep you informed of any major updates on this proposed project as they occur. ... See MoreSee Less
