Severe Storm Causes Widespread Damage in Whiteshell Provincial Park
A powerful storm caused significant tree damage and power outages across parts of Whiteshell Provincial Park. Cleanup efforts are underway as officials assess the damage.
A powerful storm swept through parts of Whiteshell Provincial Park earlier this week, leaving extensive damage to trees, campsites, cottages, and infrastructure.
The hardest-hit areas were in the eastern Whiteshell near the Manitoba-Ontario border, where strong winds toppled and snapped hundreds of trees, blocked roads, damaged campsites, and caused power outages. Cleanup efforts are ongoing as residents, cottagers, campground operators, Manitoba Parks staff, and Manitoba Hydro crews work to restore affected areas.
Whispering Pines Campground was among the areas that sustained significant damage, with numerous campsites affected by fallen trees. Several cottages and recreational properties also experienced damage, although no serious injuries have been reported.
Visitors planning to travel to the Whiteshell are encouraged to exercise caution, watch for cleanup crews, and check road and park conditions before heading out.
The Whiteshell Cottagers Association extends its appreciation to Manitoba Parks staff, Manitoba Hydro crews, emergency responders, campground staff, and the many volunteers and property owners working to clear debris and assist affected communities.
