IMPORTANT NOTICE

Posted on: September 12, 2016  |

The Whiteshell Cottagers Association with assistance from Sustainable Development at the Province of Manitoba is currently exploring the possibility of creating a North Whiteshell Fire Department or contracting with surrounding municipalities to provide structural fire protection (fight cottage fires) and other services such as responding to motor vehicle accidents.

You might be aware of the fact that cottage owners and visitors to the North Whiteshell (all lakes from Brereton, North West to Eleanor) do not have 911 service. That is because the North Whiteshell does not have a fire department which always provides the first response to 911 calls.

The first step in this process is to determine whether there is a sufficient number of volunteer fire fighters. Volunteerism has many benefits, not the least of which is earning the respect and admiration of hundreds of park visitors and cottage owners whose lives you are protecting. No previous experience is necessary and training will be provided by the Office of the Fire Commissioner. Volunteers may receive certain tax benefits and compensation for out of pocket expenses.

A volunteer firefighter must:

Be physically capable of performing the duties of a firefighter
Be a full time resident of the North Whiteshell or surrounding area
Have a valid driver’s licence and and be willing to upgrade to a class 4 licence
DO YOU WANT TO BE A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER?

Please send a brief email indicating your interest to the Whiteshell Cottagers Association at wca@whiteshellcottagers.com by no later than November 30,2016.

Please check the WCA website at whiteshellcottagers.com for regular updates on this important initiative.
